The service arm of the American Heritage Girls is the HUGS (Heritage Girls United Giving Service) program.  AHG's strong service program encourages girls to put "legs on their faith" and put their values into action.  Service gives AHG girls an outward focus toward others' needs rather than always seeking benefit to self.  Due to this commitment to service, each AHG Troop performs a minimum of three service projects a year.  AHG provides thousands of service hours each year, touching individuals around the world.

                                      NATIONAL SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

Operation Christmas Childhttp://www.ahgonline.org/uploads/OCC_logo.jpg
Operation Christmas Child, a division of Franklin Graham's Samaritan's Purse, sends a message of hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and Christian literature. This program provides an opportunity for individuals of all ages to be involved in a simple, hands-on missions project that reaches out to suffering children while focusing on the true meaning of Christmas—Jesus Christ, God's greatest gift. Each year, the program collects millions of shoe boxes worldwide and distributes them to children in more than 100 countries. Several American Heritage Girls Troops choose to participate in this ministry as one of their three yearly projects.  Click here to learn more about OCC and to see how your AHG Troop or family can get involved.

Compassion Internationalhttp://www.ahgonline.org/uploads/compassion_logo.jpg
Children of third world countries are in desperate need of your help, loving support, and kindness.  With a large heart and a low cost, adopt a child living the harsh reality of poverty and provide them with the education, health, and prayers they need to live a life of hope.  There is nothing more impactful than children helping children as AHG Troops are helping make a difference, one child at a time by sending monthly support and writing letters of love to their sponsored children.  Learn more about the Compassion International program by clicking here.

                                        LOCAL SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

Make A Difference Day
American Heritage Girls is proud to participate each year in USA Weekend’s Make a Difference Day held in October. AHG has participated in this National event since the organization's beginning in 1995.

HUGS Duffle Bags
This service project encourages AHG girls to donate duffle bags of toiletries, toys, books, school supplies and home-made blankets to children in foster care.

Cookies for the Kairos
Girl members, along with their Leaders and families, bake cookies in their own kitchens to give to prisoners through the Kairos Prison Ministry.  While baking, the girls are asked to pray for those behind bars and the families whose lives are touched by their criminal actions, teaching the girls of God's infinite mercy for His children.

Scouting for Food and Clothing
AHG Troops often partner with their local BSA Units to collect food and clothes to help those in need in their own community.
